The Four Seasons, 20 Grosvenor Square — Rising Bollard System

The Four Seasons at Twenty Grosvenor Square – the first-ever stand-alone Four Seasons Private Residences – located on one of the world’s grandest garden squares, is a home of historical significance, comprising 37 private residences, including three penthouses.

Finchatton has masterfully designed twenty Grosvenor Square to combine exceptional elegance with legendary hotel-style living, delivering an unrivalled level of quality and service to homeowners.

The designers wanted to provide a secure drop-off point directly outside the residency doors while also protecting the area from unwanted vehicles by enabling the reception desk or concierge to control the bollards. They also requested for the bollards to be linked to the building’s fire alarm, which would lower the bollards automatically if activated.

The Four Seasons has an underground Car Park for residents and visitors directly below the entrance driveway; this reduced the area above ground to a total depth of 650mm.

Bollard

Macs specified the 275/P400 Automatic Hydraulic Bollard with a suspended foundation box to house the bollard; this requires a depth of only 600mm below ground.

The integrated bollard hydraulic pump is fitted with a solenoid valve, wired to the fire alarm. This enables automatic lowering in the event of a fire alarm being raised. The pump also has an integrated safety pressure switch, so if any pressure is detected during the raising process, the bollard automatically lowers, reducing any damage to vehicles. This device was a must-have feature due to the class of car which frequents the premises.

The bollards are controlled via a discrete up/down button installed under the reception desk or via a Transceiver System. Each concierge has a small transmitter fob. When a guest or chauffeur arrives, the concierge presses a button on his fob, which commands the bollard down. Once the vehicle has cleared the bollard, the concierge presses button two, which initiates the raising process.

The designers were keen to follow the colour scheme of existing metal elements at the front of the building, namely IGP-DURA®xal, an undisputed position as the leading powder coating system for imitating an anodised finish on aluminium.

IGP-DURA®xal is a highly weather-resistant product group that is suitable for use on façades. It gives surfaces an exceptional deep matt, velvety elegance with an excellent gradient. Surfaces coated with this product provide a metallic impression with excellent UV and weather stability.

The Stainless Steel Bollard cylinders were powder coated with this product which allowed total uniformity.
